Bear B.U.M. & Bobby: Massasauga Prov. Park - Breaking Bad Style

Tuesday - The Beginnings

The weather forecast is for extremely hot weather for the next few days, so Bear B.U.M. and Bobby decide to go on another canoe trip - this time to Massasauga Provincial Park. Neither Bobby, nor Bear, have been to this park so it will be quite the adventure. Not the least of which, is that the park is home to the only poisonous snakes in Canada - The Massasauga Rattle Snake.

As they turn into the entrance of the park, Bear sees this sign and starts to panic and gets very worried. Bobby tells Bear to quit worrying and to - 'suck it up buttercup'. Bear is very displeased with Bobby's attitude.

After a 30 min paddle, during which Bear did not even speak to Bobby, they arrived at the first portage. Bear could not believe it when Bobby made poor Bear walk along the path first, in case of Rattlesnakes. Bear was afraid and became very angry towards Bobby.

Bear was even more angry when they finally made it to the end of the portage and it was raining. In fact, Bear wouldn't even talk or look at Bobby the entire way to the first camp site.

When they arrived at the camp site, Bobby made a fire, took pictures of an eager beaver, and, as well, a beautiful sunset.

While Bobby was busy, Bear just sat on the rock and stared at the sun - getting madder and madder. He was an extremely angry young Bear.

After dinner, Bobby decided that it was time to enjoy a glass, or more truthfully - many glasses, of wine. As Bobby became happier with each glass consumed, Bear became angrier and his head became filled with thoughts of revenge.

Wednesday - Breaking Bad Style

The next day, when Bobby finally awoke, Bear was still sitting on the rock, this time with an evil grin on his face and scissors and an axe in his paws. Bobby didn't understand and when he questioned Bear - well, Bear just starred at him with that evil grin.

Bobby proceeded to make coffee and have his first cigar of the day whilst looking over the lake. It was when Bobby caught a look at himself in the reflection of his coffee mug that he understood Bears revenge. Bobby was now angry and upset. He rushed Bear and fought him, taking away first the scissors then the axe. The fight lasted several minutes. Poor Bear was punched, kicked and finally stepped on by Bobby.

Sometime later that morning, after he grew to like the new image of himself, Bobby apologized to Bear and in return, Bear apologized to Bobby. Their friendship was repaired and all was forgiven.

After lunch, Bear B.U.M. and Bobby set out for their next camp site. It was a two hour paddle, and although very hot out, they didn't notice the heat so much as they paddled into a headwind for the entire time. The new site had an excellent view but it was so very hot.

In fact it was such a spectacularly hot day, that Bear B.U.M. decided to live up to his name and he shed his clothes in search of the all-over tan. Later, Bobby decided that he too should join the all-over Bear B.U.M. tanning club.

After a full day of tanning, Bear B.U.M. and Bare Bum Bobby, sat around the fire enjoying a glass of wine and the wilderness.

Thursday - The End

The next morning was uneventful as Bear B.U.M. and Bobby packed up and headed for home. Another great trip - Breaking Bad Style! (and no MF snakes on this canoe trip)

Bear B.U.M. & Bobby: The Big Portage

On Friday, Bear B.U.M. and Bobby set out for their first canoe trip of 2012. Bear B.U.M. was very excited to finally get back out into the calming influence of Algonquin Park. Their plan was to do the Magnetawan - Hambone - Ralph Bice (aka Butt Lake) - Little Trout - Queer - Little Misty - Petawawa River - Daisy - Hambone - Magnetawan Loop. Off to a late start on Friday, Bear B.U.M. and Bobby didn't get to the park until 3 pm. It was an uneventful paddle to their Ralph Bice site and by 8 pm they had eaten and were able to relax on the shore with a glass of wine and a cigar. Bear B.U.M. doesn't smoke himself, but, he does enjoy the smell of a cheap cigar. A quite night was spent relaxing by the fire and finishing the box of wine. The next day, Bear B.U.M. and Bobby set out for their next stop at Queer Lake. On the way Bobby paddled too close to a seagull who started to dive bomb Bobby and Bear. Bobby almost got seagull poop on him but Bear was safe from the attack, safely tucked into his rain gear. By 3 pm they had arrived at their site and Bear relaxed by the fire while Bobby pitched the tent and started dinner. It was going to be an early night as they had a long portage the next day. Although it rained a bit overnight, the next morning was picture perfect and Bear B.U.M. and Bobby set out for a long day of paddling and portaging. They arrived at the long portage at 10:30 in the morning. Bear had not slept very well and was tired so poor Bobby had to carry him across the 2 1/2 km portage. Bobby was not happy carrying a canoe, a pack and Bear such a long distance. Bobby finally completed the portage by 2 pm and took a small break on the shore of Little Misty. Unfortunately, the camp site on Little Misty was taken and Bear B.U.M. and Bobby had to push on to Daisy Lake. This meant two more portages and several km of paddling yet to go. While traveling the Petawawa River, Bear B.U.M. and Bobby saw a moose who was relaxing in the river. This almost made up for the day long paddle into the wind, the two additional portages and numerous beaver dam lift-overs. When they finally arrived at their camp site at 7 pm, Bobby was extremely tired and immediately took to the medicine to relieve the pain. In fact Bear B.U.M. and Bobby stayed up very late that night taking a lot of medicine by the fire. The next morning, Bobby was still in pain and was moving slowly. He really didn't want to leave the camp site for another paddle into the wind. Bear B.U.M., however, was anxious to get home since the medicine had run out. So, after some deliberation, Bear B.U.M. and Bobby packed up and headed home, finally finishing their trip late in the day.
